From July 15th to August 15th, Prof. Christian Henkel from Max Plank Institute Für Radio Astronomie visited Xinjiang Astronomical Observatory (XAO) for a month.

During his visit, Prof. Henkel presented talks twice at XAO and delivered an academic report at the 2017 Annual Meeting of the Astronomical Society of China with the title of Nuclear Engines in Normal Milky Way Sized Galaxies, in which high-sensitivity results on extragalactic isotopics CNO-S-Si and the latest results on super starburst galaxies on the 3-4Mpc distances obtained from PdBI and ALMA telescopes were introduced. Besides these reports, Prof. Henkel also joined the discussion on all research subjects in the Star formation and evolution group and application for observing time on international telescopes. He also gave guidance to the students for their research on ammonia and formaldehyde spectrums observed with the NanShan 26m Radio telescope.

With enormous success in his research field, Prof. Henkel is an outstanding astronomical scientist who also possesses great experiences on the construction and operation of large telescopes. His contributions on the latter include the participations in the telescope construction projects of The Submillimeter Telescope (SMT) in the United States and The Atacama Pathfinder EXperimentAPEXin Chile. During this visit, he held discussion with the Star formation and evolution group on the scientific development of QTT, the 110-m fully steerable single-dish radio telescope.
