Visit of Prof.Eric Herbst from Virginia Commonwealth University
From July 28th to August 5th, Prof. Eric Herbst, a famous expert in astrochemistry from Virginia Commonwealth University, visited XAO at the invitation of the astrochemistry group.
In his talk on “The Formation of Large Molecules in Star-forming Regions”, he introduced the interstellar medium, star formation, astrochemical model, and complex organic molecules mechanism, formation of the complex molecules under the cosmic ray burst, star chemistry experiment and other new results in the astrochemical research fields. He also gave guidance to students and young researchers for their research subjects, stimulated staff at XAO to new thinking, and offered invaluable suggestions for the development of XAO.
Prof. Herbst also held a series of scientific writing classes, in which he explained the preparation works, basic structures, technical methods, grammar and other related issues that we should be mindful of during the writing process. He also led discussion session after each lessons when further problems from students were shared and discussed. The writing lessons were highly appreciated by students and staff alike.
