The research team of the Micius quantum satellite was awarded the 2018 Newcomb Cleveland Prize by the American Association for the Advancement of Science (AAAS) on February 2019, for the achievement of satellite-to-ground entanglement distribution over thousand kilometers.

The Micius quantum satellite was successfully launched on Aug. 16, 2018, and the Xinjiang Astronomical Observatory (XAO) was committed to the telescope operation and quantum science experiment as one of the satellite ground station.  In early 2017, the research team of the Micius quantum satellite, led by Prof. PAN Jianwei at the University of Science and Technology of China (USTC) of Chinese Academy of Sciences (CAS), was completed the satellite-to-ground entanglement distribution over thousand kilometers as the international pioneer, and the related works were published as the cover of the Jun issue of Science.
